Science at Hill Avenue Academy is taught through practical activity with a systematic study of the physical and natural world, through the experimental opportunities provided. The learning opportunities come from the National curriculum to ensure that the high standards of national expectations of teaching and learning are met. The curriculum provides fun and exciting opportunities for all children. It provides a wide range of coverage in all areas which are evident in our books.  We keep track of all standards which children achieve to ensure further progress is made.

At Hill Avenue we encourage children to use their imagination and apply their own skills. We provide children with lots of learning opportunities, which allows them to express themselves in many different aspects. Children are constantly being challenged reaching for mastery at all times.

Through the high expectations in books and behaviour we track children’s progress through building blocks, to identify the individual learning needs and focus on closing the gap.  In Science, we offer many different teaching and learning styles such as predication, investigation, exploration, observation and practicality.

Our main aim is to enhance and develop the scientific mind-set of children, to enhance their knowledge and understanding through various learning opportunities. Teachers at Hill Avenue work together as a unit to team teach and show children that nothing is impossible! Science has changed the lives of people therefore it is a vital to our children’s future. Children are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is happening and how things behave and why they behave this way. At Hill Avenue we use blooms taxonomy to question science in many different aspects so that children are equipped and ready for the future. Teachers at Hill Avenue ensure that all pupils build secure foundations by using discussion to probe and remedy their misconceptions.
