Our Curriculum

Exploring together, succeeding together

At Hill Avenue our curriculum is designed to develop inquisitive, independent thinkers with a love of learning. We understand that the curriculum, both within taught lessons and beyond them, should create an environment where questioning, academic risk-taking, divergent thinking and the freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged. Our curriculum will develop in our students these qualities: responsibility, independence and a sense that learning can excite and invigorate throughout life.

“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” ― Aristotle.

What does our Curriculum aim to do?

Excellent education

At Hill Avenue Academy, our aim is to educate all children to the highest levels of academic and personal achievement developing confident, happy and compassionate members of society though our bespoke curriculum which is built upon, Exploring together; Succeeding together, in conjunction with our school values.

Engagement

We see our children’s learning journey as an exciting opportunity to spark intrigue, to be curious and to want to explore life. We strive to foster an excitement and a love of learning by planning ‘REAL’ outcomes to engage our learners and enable them to become their own thinkers, drive their own learning and have a sense of pride in their work. Our curriculum is also designed to engage children by providing opportunities to ‘FEEL’ allowing children to connect with their learning at a deeper level.

Key skills

We nurture our children on their journey and encourage them to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.

British values

We take our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain very seriously and ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the ethos and work of our school.
